Paradesa Yangshuo Resort

The Paradesa Yangshuo Resort was our last hotel in mainland China having been travelling in the region for nearly 50 days. The reception is like a railway station, full of tour groups and left luggage, but everyone spoke english and we had a room with a view of a Karst mountain. Beware of the mosquitoes, they got into the room and they seemed immune to all anti repellant.

We found Yanghsuo a complete culture shock having really had a Chinese experience. Everything is VERY expensive and the rip offs are poor quality. We spent little time in the hotel and did not make it to the pool. It was a good location after dinner as everything is only a few minutes walk away.

Breakfast was fine and it was really nice to sit ouitside by the water with good views. When we got up to go back to the buffet they were very quick to clear up and when we told them we were not finished they were very apologetic.

Opposite the hotel is another hotel on West St with outside tables and good value beer and a western toilet. A great spot to get away from the shoppers and day trippers and enjoy the sunset. Watch out for pickpockets – young boys working in gangs and using mobile phones to communicate with each other. So be aware and hang onto your belongings.

Had a good meal and homemade carrot cake and good Yunnan coffee at the Yak Cafe.
Had a great relexology treatment at Dr Lily Li’s in town. The hotel is good value fro maasage but the opening hours were midday to midnight and we wanted a morning treatment on our last day!
Booked a Li River trip from Xinping on a small private boat via a travel agent on the street to the left of the hotel. It was great and a lot more fun from the huge boats we saw on their way back to Guilin.
Had wonderful savoury pancakes from a street vendor to the right of the hotel. The cheapest meal in town at 3 yuen and it was delicious.

The hotel happily stored our luggage for us on the last day.
