It comes the time for the annual factory-outlet sales of Sanhuajiu! I went with my grandpa to the Elephant Hill, there is an ancient bodega at the foot of the hill, a warehouse for the storage of rice wine. The bodega opens once a year, sells some real good liquor before Chinese New Year. Grandpa has waited for this for months!

As usual, you need to take your own container for Sanhuajiu. We took a big barrel, and we were only allow to buy 5kg per person. People were shivering or trembling in the cold wind, for their favorite drinks for Chinese New Year…
San Hua jiu (in Chinese it means “three flowers wine”) is a hot liquor made in Guilin with allegedly over a thousand year history. It is famous for the fragrant herbal addition, and the use of spring water from Elephant Hill in the region. Alcohol content by volume: 55–57%. Though it is called rice wine, it is really a strong liquor.

Sanhuajiu is a type of white liquor (baijiu), which means “hot liquor” or “burned liquor”, because of the burning sensation in the mouth during consumption
