Located on the plain of Xinhua, Putian is flat in landform and convenient in both land transportation and water transportation with the aid of its highways radiating in all directions and the inland water transport network. The Fuzhou-Xiamen Expressway and associated branches help link the city with major cities as Fuzhou, Xiamen, Zhangzhou, Quanzhou and Sanming. Passing by Putian, Fuzhou-Xiamen Expressway consists of Quanzhou-Xiamen Expressway and Fuzhou-Quanzhou Expressway.

 Fengting Harbor 
Located at the northwest branch (Xiaqiao of Fengting Town) of Meizhou bay-head, the harbor area consists of three harbors: Xiaqiao, Doumen and Niutouwan. With harbor line extending 500 meters and water area covering 2.5 hectares, the highest water level and the lowest water level of Xiaqiao harbor are 2.3 meters and 0.7 meter respectively, while the water level of front apron during ebb-tide is 0.5 meter. With harbor line extending 400 meters and water course reaching a width of 40 meters, the highest water level and the lowest water level of Doumen harbor are 3.7 meters and 2 meters respectively. The perfectly straight water course of Niutouwan has a width of 100 meters, and is free from any shoal materials. The width of beach face reaches 800 meters, with water depth hitting 5-6 meters during flood tide and 3.6-4 meters during neap tide. Both length and width of the harbor basin reach 130 meters, with water depth of 8 meters.
