Meaning of the name of "Puqi"
Puqi means "Cattail (reed) Boundary". Chibi means "Red Cliff".

117,264 (1991 estimate, presumably for Puqi City and not for the entire district)

Location
Puqi is located extreme southern Hubei Province, 100 km (60 miles) southwest of Wuhan and 30 km (20 miles) south of the Yangzi River.

Chibi is a small town under the administrative control of Puqi City, located on the Yangzi River to the northwest of Puqi.

Language
Puqi natives speak a dialect of Southwestern Mandarin Chinese .

History
At Chibi on the Yangzi River near Puqi is the site of an important battle fought in 205 AD, during the Three Kingdoms period.

Folklore
At the battle of Chibi in 205 AD, the famous military strategist Zhuge Liang is said to have used Taoist magic to cause an unseasonal southeasterly wind to burn up his enemy's naval flotilla. The burning ships permanently scorched the cliffs on the rivershore, hence the name Chibi meaning "red cliff".
