Chongqing Stilwell Museum

Chongqing Stilwell Museum

Stilwell museum, in the memory of Joseph Stilwell (1883-1946), houses a collection of photos, documents, articles, videos, and Stilwell's personal belongings that may be of interest to American history buffs.

Stilwell's former residence was still furnished as it had been during the war, complete with jeeps parked out front. In the basement were all sorts of old photos of him with Chiang Kai-shek and a few other important people. There were even photos of him leading troops at age 60! There was a bit of information about the Flying Tigers, Stilwell Road and the Hump Flying Route over India to China.

After Pearl Harbor, President Roosevelt sent General Joseph Stilwell to Chongqing as commander in chief of Allied forces in the China Burma India Theater of the World War II in 1942.
