Foshan Lantern

Colorful lantern is named as lantern art in Foshan folk.  Tieing is a kind of three-dimensional modeling making according to the making objects of person, animal ,plant, pavilion and tower. The lantern art designed and made by Foshan Folk Art Research Institute is a main stream of Chinese traditional lantern arts. It has the characteristics of exquisite and fine workmanship of South China colorful lantern, which is called "Foshan Lantern art" in tradition. This has detailed description in the historical records of Ming and Qing Dynasty. 

 

The making of Foshan Lantern art mainly uses bamboo piece, iron wire and other materials to make and tie by hand into different shapes, the glued colorful silk cloth, lace, color fringe, matched with the unique "Foshan Paper-cut "patterns of Foshan, or painted various patterns on the silk.

 

Based on the tradition, the making art of Foshan Lantern art has innovated and developed constantly, with richer and more colorful patterns and variety, walking towards plaza arts from the original interior arts, to scale combination from single work.

 

It has the features of traditional workmanship with novel modeling, exaggerated but realistic, exquisite and elegant, fine workmanship, bring-colored and beautiful in daytime, bright and magnificent in nighttime.

 

The artistic works of lantern art of Foshan Folk Arts Research Institute have been invited to exhibit in foreign countries every year, which are well received by all personalities in those countries.

 

The fine artistic works exhibited have been listed into the Genius World Record thrice. In the celebration ceremony of Hongkong`s Return to China, Foshan Lantern art showed the whole world the charms of Chinese traditional excellent cultures and arts more completely.
