Heyuan, with a long history in east Guangdong Province, has talented people and fertile land. Since the municipality was established in 1988, Heyuan has governed five counties and one district including Dongyuan, Lianping, Heping, Longchuan, and Zijin County and Yuancheng District, with the total area of 15,800 square kilometers and the population of 3.37 million.

Heyuan has very convenient transportations, advanced communication, and complete port facilities. It is approximately 200 kilometers away from Hong Kong and Guangzhou. Beijing-Kowloon Railway and Guangzhou-Meizhou-Shantou Railway meets inside Heyan borders. National highways 205 and 105, Heyuan-Huizhou Expressway, Heyuan-Meizhou Expressway, and Guangdong-Jiangxi Expressway run through the municipality. Ships go up to Huangpu Port, Guangzhou through the Dongjiang River. Heyuan has modern communication networks and first-class port facilities.
As a China Top Tourist City, Heyan has green mountains and blue waters. Domestic and foreign tourists of over two million person-times are received each year. The Lake Wanluhu, which is close to urban area, is a reservoir with water area of 370 square kilometers, equal to the total area of 68 West Lakes in Hangzhou. With its water capacity of 13.9 billion cubic meters, the Lake Wanluhu is called “the sea among mountains”. With the water and the mountains inside each other, the colors of the water and the sky melting into one, and the chain of mountains covered with green color, the area is a natural scenic spot for tourists.
Heyuan is resourceful. Xinfengjiang Hydropower Plant, the largest of its kind in Guangdong, Fengshuba Hydropower Plant, and Dading iron mine, the largest one in Southeast China, are located in Heyuan. Heyuan also has large mineral reserves of high-grade minerals, such as rare earth, fluorite, tin, lead-zinc, titanium, silica, and dolerite. The city’s forest coverage rate is 72% and the standing stock volume reaches 30.92 million cubic meters.
