Zhaoqing is the cradleland of the ancient Lingnan Culture, located in the mid-western part of Guangdong Province. The city boasts not only its beautiful natural sceneries but famous summer resorts, which are Seven Star Rocks (Qixingyan) and Pot Lake Hill(Dinghushan), etc.

During the Sui Dynasty (AD518-618), Zhaoqing was called Duanzhou, and it was an important administrative region and military base. The city was changed into the present name Zhaoqing during the Song Dynasty (AD960-1279).

 

One of Italian priest, Matteo Ricci, traveled to Zhaoqing and drew the first map of the world in Chinese in 1584. He liked Zhaoqing very much and stayed there form 1583 to 1589.

 

Zhaoqing with convenient transpotation, a transport network has been establish by direct trains and buses, which link the city with Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and many other cities. It is about 110 kilometers from Guangzhou city, 270 kilometers from Hong Kong, and 180 kilometers from Macau.

 

The total area of Zhaoqing is 15 thousand kilometers, and the population is 3.9076 million. For it enjoys the south subtropical monsoon climate, the annual average temperature is 22 °C, and the annual precipitation is 1605 mm. The climate is temperate throughout the whole year, so all the four seasons are the best time to visit Zhaoqing.

Seven-Star Rocks also named as Qixingyan, is

a famous summer resort that lies in the northern suburbs of Zhaoqing , 13 kilometers from Guangzhou city. The tourist site boasts the beautiful mountains of Guilin and the charming waters of Hangzhou's west lake.

Pot Lake Hill

 

Dinghushain is a famous Buddhist shrine as well as a famous tourist site in Zhaoqing. There is a large pot in the temple, which capable of cooking food for over 1000 people. As one of the famous summer resorts that with the most beautiful scenery, Dinghushain attracts flocks of visitors each year.
