Wenshan Prefecture
Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Nationalities Autonomous Prefecture is situated in the southeastern part of Yunnan.
The Karst topography of Wenshan forms a great variety of fantastic scenery with its mountains, waters, forest, stones and caverns. The Babao Sanla Waterfall and the Puzhehei scenic area are the most attractive parts of Wenshan.
The principle nationalities inhabiting the prefecture are the Zhuang and the Miao. They have different habit of living: Zhuang used to live at the headwaters region, while Miao like to live at the top of a mountain. The ancestor of Miao was good at hunting. The hunters were often injured and bleeding. They chewed a kind of weed and used the chewed weed to put on the wound to stop the bleeding, the wound was sealed just like by a lacquer. It is now one of the famous medicines in China.
Classification
Sanqi (Araliaceae, Panax), a herbaceous perennial, has been named for many times until it was confirmed as an independent species after integrated research through morphological classification, geological distribution and chemical analysis and was named Panax notoginseng (Burk.) F.H. Chen which was raised by Mr. Chen Fenghuai in 1948, in which notoginseng means "ginseng in south China". The Latin name appropriately shows the similarity in quality and difference in distribution between Sanqi and ginseng and was generally recognized by the circles of botany and medicine.
Latin synonym includes Panax Pseudo-ginseng Wall. var. notoginseng (Burkill) Hoo & Tseng and Aralia quinquefolia (L.)Decnehr etc.
