What to see in Kaili city
In the city of Kaili, two places are worth to visit.  The first one is Kaili Museum, where you can have a background knowledge of all minority native culture in this area;

 

The second thing is the Sunday market, held every five days. Set along the river, the market retains its amazing size and atmosphere as well as many of its wooden homes and buildings.

 

Villages around kaili
Kaili is host to more than 120 Miao festivals throughout the year. The arts and crafts of the Miao, including jewelry, embroidery, brocade, batik, and papercutting, are renowned.

 

Most of the European visitors choose to stay in Kaili for 2-3 nights, it is the only place where basic accommodation facilities are available in this area; it is also convenient to start from Kaili to visit many native villages nearby.  Every attraction is within two hours driving distance.

 

Local Festivals
Numerous ethnic festivals with different styles available to visit in different seasons all the year round, the best time for profectional photographers.

 

In ordinary days, difficult to see a native miao girl to dress up totally in traditonal costume.  For a whole set of silver ornament from head to toe, the dress matches different ages, it takes hours to put everything on!   You can only see them on big festivals.  

 

Famous festivals: the Dragon Boat Festival, Dragon Lantern Festival, Lusheng Performance, Sisters' Meal Festival, New Rice Eating Festival, Miao New Year,ect. It may be said:' Customs and styles are different in a short distance of 5km; grand festivals occur every three days while minor ones everyday.' The local customs and practices and ethnic dietary culture can be appreciated here.

 

How to go to Kaili
There are few trains from Guiyang to Kaili, no airport in Kaili, most of travelers come here by road.

 

From Guiyang airport to Kaili
You might either take a taxi for 2-hour ride from Guiyang airport, the road system is quite good between Guiyang and Kaili;  Airport shuttle bus goes from Guiyang airport to Guiyang railway station,  the long distance bus staion is next door to the railway staion, change bus for 2.5 hour ride to Kaili.

 

Notice: there are two long distance bus station in Guiyang, the one near the railway station is the only one you take bus to Kaili.

 

From Kaili to Guiyang airport
Take bus from Kaili Long Distance Bus Staion (KaiYunSi in Chinese), the bus goes from Kaili to Guiyang, tell the bus driver when you ge on board, ask him to stop at Guiyang airport.

 

Notice:  There are two long distance bus staions in Kaili, the KaiYunSi is the one you are going to find, tell your taxi driver KaiYunSi.    Also remember to tell the bus driver to stop at Guiyang airport as soon as you get in the bus, repeat it again when he leaves the station (sometimes another driver might change the shift to drive, you thinks he is the same person you have talked too, unfortunately he is not).   Otherwise he will drive directly to Downtown Guiyang.

 

From Hunan Province
You might take train from Hunan Province in the east, and Kaili is the main station in this area. 

 

From Guilin
many people fly to Guilin, a place famous for her beautiful landscape,  daily flights from majoy Chinese cities available, then you drive 3-4 days through the remote mountain areas of Longsheng, Sanjiang, Zhaoxing, Congjiang, Rongjiang, end their trips in Kaili and Guiyang.
