Guiyang

Guiyang, known as "Zhu" for short, is the capital of Guizhou Province, it is a city on the Yungui plateeau.  The forest belt around the city covers an area of 100,000 hectares; and in 2004, Guiyang was listed as the first"national forest city" of China.

Guiyang is situated in the central part of Guizhou province, to the south of the Guishan mountain, hence the name Guiyang. With an altitude of 1,080 m above the sea level, it is a mountain city embraced by many mountains. In a subrropical zone, it possessed an even-green surrounding and leeasant climate with an average temperature of 15.6C. It is praised a ' Spring City', and dieal lace for a summer resort and tourism.

The Guiyang area rich in scenic attractions and historic relics, enjoys graceful beauty and enchanting landscape. The famous spots in its urban district are Jiaxiu Pavilion, Hongfu Buddhist Temple, Qianling Mountain, Qinaling Lake, Wenchang Pavilion, etc. while in the suburbs are the Hundred-Flower Lake, the Site of Xifeng Concentration Camp. etc.

Guiyang is a rarely visited, landlocked provincial city. It is an anthropoligical treasure trove. Guizhou is the home of 13 of China's 56 officially recognized ethnic minorities. Recommend you to go to Kaili, a 3 hour drive east of Guiyang, provides a good base for explorations of the surrounding Miao villages.

You will see all of the local Miao people decked out in their finest minority clothing and silver ornaments, it is a good opportunity to see their clothing and folk-custom, you may learn more traditional culture. Witness much more local activities, fox example, Lusheng dancing, horse racing, rooster fights, and water buffalo fights...and so on.
